Winning projects attest to builders’ quality work and professionalism
Renovators are the unsung heroes of the building and land development industry. So I’m pleased to be able to tell you about a few contractors and projects that stand out among the excellent work across the GTA.
Six companies were recognized recently for their exceptional professionalism and quality of work at Renovation and Custom Home Awards that highlight just a few of the achievements of the home renovation and repair industry that generates $13 billion a year.
You can see before-and-after photos of the entries at BILD’s Destination Renovation exhibit, located at Booth 1916 at the National Home Show. The event runs until Sunday, March 23 at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place.
Eurodale Developments reclaimed its title as BILD Renovator of the Year by winning this prestigious award for the second time in four years.
The Renovator of the Year award is given to a renovator who sets the standard for the rest of the industry by demonstrating leadership and commitment to customer service, as well as contributing to the industry’s overall image.
While Eurodale took the event’s biggest honour, SevernWoods Construction Inc. took home two awards.
The first was for Best Renovation in the $300,000-$500,000 category. SevernWoods’ winning project started out as a simple kitchen reno and ended up being a completely redesigned main floor and partially renovated second floor.
The company’s second award was for the Best Custom Home. This home features a modern design with three bedrooms on split levels, one upstairs and two bedrooms in the basement. The main-floor ceilings vary in height from nine to 16 feet, and the main interior finishes included white walls complemented with coloured accents, minimal trim and beautiful flooring.
In the Best Renovation Under $75,000 category, Golden Bee Homes Inc. took the award for the second consecutive year. This time, the company claimed the award for its exceptional design on a bathroom renovation project.
In the Best Renovation $75,000-$150,000 category, W.C. Meek Design and Construction Ltd. was named the winner. The company’s renovation excelled at combining a multifunctional space for entertaining and cooking in a large, modern kitchen.
Alphyn Construction Inc. received the award for Best Renovation $150,000-$300,000 after taking on a huge project on a house that was not in liveable condition when its homeowner bought it. Alphyn turned it into a modern masterpiece.
Perhaps the toughest category to judge is the Best Renovation for more than $500,000 category since it’s always loaded with great examples of top-notch renovations. But in the end, Upside Inc. stood out for its work on a 4,000-square-foot ravine home in a complete reconstruction of the original bungalow.
“Judging was incredibly difficult this year as all entries demonstrated exceptional quality of work,” said BILD vice-president of membership and RenoMark program manager Helen Batista.
“These are all great examples of delivering on the homeowner’s dream when you hire a professional.”
